IMPORTANT UPDATE - SNAP Emergency Allotments

Since April 2020, all Illinois SNAP households received both regular monthly benefits and an emergency SNAP allotment to address increased food insecurity challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.  February 2023 will be the last month for SNAP households to receive the emergency SNAP allotment.  This will result in a decrease between $95 and $255 per household per month.

Effective March 1, 2023, SNAP benefits will return to pre-pandemic levels and will use the normal eligibility determination process that considers household size, income, and deductions.  IDHS recommends that SNAP customers visit www.abe.illinois.gov to update their account (e.g., change of address, increase in housing costs, decrease in income, etc.) in order to ensure they receive the maximum benefit for which they are eligible.

Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has put together a resource page to help SNAP households with the transition away from emergency allotments.  In addition, IDHS has prepared and translated an informational flyer (available below) and will be mailing SNAP customers a letter in the near future.
