Dear LARC Extern,
Welcome and congratulations on successfully completing the classroom portion of the LARC Interpreter Training!
As previously mentioned in class, you will be required to complete a minimum of 40 externship hours. You will have one year from the date your class ended to complete your training.

Your externship requirements must be submitted to LARC prior to registering for any externship opportunities.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When can I start my externship hours?
Once you successfully complete the classroom portion of the program and your results are communicated to you by your instructor, you will receive an Extern Welcome email from LARC. The email will explain the documentation that you need to submit in order to start your externship practice. Once LARC has received your documentation, you will be given access to our externship site, Sign up, where you can register for shadowing and on your own externship opportunities.
How long do I have to complete my Externship hours?
You have one year from the last day of your class to complete your 40 hours.
How do I access the Externship opportunities?
Externship opportunities are posted on our Sign up site and updated weekly. You will have access to the site once we receive your externship documentation.
Some opportunities are shared via email.
What happens after I have signed up for an opportunity?
You will receive an email confirmation from LARC with detailed information. If you have a confirmed appointment and it is no longer available, LARC will notify you.
What happens if I’m no longer available for an externship opportunity?
It is your responsibility to notify LARC via email, as soon as possible. We need to find coverage and notify the requester in a timely manner.
What do I do if I am having trouble with my externship requirements?
If you are having difficulty completing the externship requirements, you must notify LARC as soon as possible. We may be able to help you.
How many hours can I complete at my job?
You may complete up to 20 hours of externship practice at work. Prior to starting your externship at your job, you must notify LARC and provide us with name, title, phone number and email of the individual LARC can contact to confirm your hours.
Do I need a signature on my Externship Log?
Your externship log does not require any signatures. Please only include the information requested. See the example on your log.
What do I do after I complete my hours?
You must submit your log to LARC for review. You will then receive an email with additional information on how to proceed.
What can I expect from my final evaluation?
Your final evaluation will be an encounter where you will interpret for one of
LARC's clients. A LARC interpreter will be present to evaluate you, using the evaluation form in your book.
What happens after my final evaluation?
LARC will review your evaluation form. You will then receive an email with your approximately one week from the date of your final evaluation.
