CULTURAL COMPETENCY TRAINING
For the past several years, organizations have become increasingly aware of the need to provide linguistically and culturally competent services.
To assist agencies in this process, the Federation developed a training series for senior executives to complete a self-assessment of cultural and linguistic competency, and to describe the methodology, findings and plan for addressing areas identified as needing improvement.
The training sessions are conducted in a learning circle format which allows organizations to share ideas and learn from each other. The process begins with an orientation meeting that covers the definitions of cultural and linguistic competency, legal and regulatory background, funder regulations, important facts about local diversity and review of the self-assessment tool.
