Open Door

DuPage Open Door is a partnership involving the Illinois Department of Human Services, the DuPage Federation on Human Services Reform and the DuPage County Department of Community Services.

What is Open Door?

The Open Door office provides support to individuals and families who are facing a crisis or emergency.  The office is located within the Villa Park Family Community Resource Center (FCRC) so it can work closely with all IDHS divisions and offices, as well as other community agencies, to help individuals in crisis receive the proper assistance as quickly as possible.

Often, individuals come to the Villa Park FCRC in an emergency situation or with a problem that cannot be addressed by the programs offered within the FCRC office, and many times they would benefit from immediate case management.  In these cases, these individuals can be referred to the DuPage Open Door office.

How Open Door Works

After an individual is referred to the DuPage Open Door office, a staff worker will meet with the person to determine the level of support he or she needs and to determine the most efficient way to meet the customer’s needs.

The DuPage Open Door office will work with customers to resolve issues such as:

  • A medical emergency
  • Eviction
  • Homelessness
  • Hunger
  • Domestic violence, or
  • Another service that cannot be addressed by the IDHS office or IDHS contractor

Once the needs are met the case will be referred to the appropriate IDHS office, Open Door partner agency, or community-based service.  If necessary, the Open Door staff worker will provide short term case management to assist the customer.
